President Maithripala Sirisena, on Monday, November 21, met with officials of the Mahaweli Authority who were granted promotions and appointments.
Officials of the Mahaweli Authority and public representatives were present at the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the president said, it was exactly two years ago today, November 21, that he defected from the then government.
“Just as I got out that day, 42 days later the people of this country elected me as the President of this country”, he added, “A few of those who voted for me might be here. Those who did not might also be here”.
He went on to note, the president of the country is someone who should conduct himself in a manner which is equal to all and that his responsibilities and duties should be carried out with an independent and impartial point of view.
