President of the National Council of Switzerland, Christa Markwalder, the equivalent of a Speaker of Parliament, visited Kandy on Sunday.
The visiting Swiss dignitary paid homage to Sacred Tooth Relic.
The President of the National Council of Switzerland also called on the Chief Prelates of the Malwatte and Asgiri Chapters of the Siam Sect.
Speaking to the media following the visit, Markwalder said that a lot of discussions were held around the the constitutional process and also about the reconciliation process and about dealing with the past.
“Personally, I am convinced that this constitutional reform is crucial for the future of the country”, she said. She added that ongoing discussions are important in order to listen to the different groups of the civil societies and to include them in to the process and also to have the legitimation by the referendum.
She pointed out that even though Switzerland has good economic ties,there is still room for improvement for investments.
“We are also very much engaged in developmemt cooperation inclusing also the developing the economy of Sri Lanka” she said
