The health sector notes that body art or tattoos could result in the spread of diseases communicable through blood.
Chairman of the Sri Lankan Public Health Officers Union Upul Rohana said that there is a high possibility for the spread of HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis.
He added that after studying the records of individuals, who have obtained services from institutions involved in carving body art,it has been observed that tattooing is increasingly common among adolescents and young adults.
He went on to note that there is a grave necessity within the country for a mechanism to regulate institutions involved in body art.
