Several homicides were reported on Thursday. Two people were hacked to death during a brawl that broke out in the Meegahajadura area in Sooriyawewa on Wednesday night.
The brawl had taken place around 9 p.m.
The two victims were a 23-year-old resident of Suruvirugama in Sooriyawewa and a 22-year-old youth who tried to mediate the argument.
Our correspondent stated that the the 22-year-old youth was a student at the Kotalawala Defence University.
Meanwhile, an altercation took place in the Galhinna village in Ankumbura on Wednesday evening.
Four people were injured in the incident while three of them are receiving treatment at the ICU of the Kandy Hospital.
The Traffic OIC of the Ankumbura police IP Wijeratne Banda who arrived at the location to mediate the matter was also assaulted and was admitted to hospital.
Five suspects have been arrested in connection to the incident while teams from the Katugasthota and Alawathugoda police stations have been brought in to aid the Ankumbura Police in their investigations.
A 22-year-old woman in Etawakwala, Pinnawala in Balangoda has allegedly strangled her four month old daughter to death.
Following the magisterial inquest, the Acting Magistrate of Balangoda remanded the woman till September 27.
She has been admitted to hospital for treatment.
The body of an infant was found in the Elugoda Oya in Peradeniya on Wednesday afternoon. Our correspondent stated that the body is believed to be of a two month old girl.
