Indian Minister of State for External Affairs,General Vijay Kumar Singh stated that these ambulances are something which will provide speedy care and all the people have been trained to handle emergencies and to ensure that the patient reaches in the shortest possible time.
He added that whenever a new programme comes anywhere – there is always a little resistance – but then this is a gift and it will be utilised in a manner in which it actually benefits the common people.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Harsha de Silva stated that according to reports these ambulances arrive within 12 minutes from the time the call is made, stating that there is an emergency.
“We are extremely happy that we will be able to save so many lives through this initiative”, said the deputy minister who further added that there are plans to expand this service in the districts of Colombo, Galle and Kalutara within the next two weeks and 1990 is a completely free service, so there is no need to make any payment.
