A Bangladeshi national was arrested by the customs at the Katunayake International Airport on Tuesday when he allegedly attempted to smuggle 1150 grams of gold from the country.
Deputy Director of Customs at the Katunayake International Airport said that this individual was arrested at 7.30 on Tuesday morning when he attempted to board a flight bound for Dhaka.
The suspect attempted to smuggle the gold out of the country by concealing the gold in his shoes and backpack.The Deputy Director said that the value of the confiscated gold exceeds Rs. 5.7 million.
