A luncheon forum titled Brexit Briefing – The Possible Impact, organised by the Shippers’ Academy Colombo was held in Colombo on Friday, July 15.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs , Dr. Harsha De Silva and newly-appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr.Indrajit Commaraswamy were among several other experts who joined the luncheon forum.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva, made the following observation:
This government took the decision to strengthen democracy not to get GSP+ or not to get any other trade concession, we did it for the people of this country and we are certain that we will get GSP+ in the next, I am saying , 6-9 months.”
Minister Harsha de Silva says that some of the critics, particularly those representing various professions have been meeting with the government and have already been promised a slot on the negotiating team for the professionals.
Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, Governor – CBSL, said:
“I mean, it is very disappointing if you think about it that since independence, basically we have only created a single billion dollar export product. That is not a great record. So, I think that there are challenges for exporters and for policy-makers to create the right environment for exports because we haven’t often had that”,
