Co-convener of the Purawasi Balaya Movement Saman Ratnapriya says that Prime Minister Ranil Wirckremesinghe has agreed not to re-appoint Arjuna Mahendran as Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka until the investigations into him conclude.
He noted that as civil societies and trade unions, they held a decisive dialogue with the Prime Minister and the main focus of the discussion was the corruption and fraud, the Value Added Tax, the issue surrounding the Governor of the Central Bank and other matters.
Saman Rathnapriya went onto say:
There are two investigations that are being carried out against him, one is being conducted by COPE. Taking into consideration the political situation, the current status of the issue surrounding the Central Bank Governor and the suspicions that have been raised against him in the country, we made a request from the Prime Minister not to re appoint him until the investigations conclude.
