The failed Doppler weather radar installation for the Department of Meteorology under the previous government has led to more controversy in the country.
The system was expected to provide the Met. Department will the latest weather data.
Yesterday in Anuradhapura, journalist raised questions over Doppler Radar system from Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, who served as the Former Minister of Disaster Management.
Minister of Professional Development and Vocational Training in reply noted that it was reported in the newspapers that COPE would get involved and the equipment was brought down in 2011 and they were installed in 2013.
“I was not the Minister of Disaster Management at that time. I stepped away in 2010” said the minister who further added that the equipment was brought into country in 2011 and the CCB began assembling the system in 2013 and that is a state institution and that is why COPE has taken a decision to probe in to it
According to the statement made by Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, Mahinda Amaraweera was in charge of the ministry during the period in question.
