Inclement weather conditions affecting the island have wrecked havoc multiple roads across the island.

Authorities have thus decided to temporarily close down the Colombo Avissawella low-level road due to flooding and the risk of sink-holes appearing on the road.

According to police, three separate locations on the low-level road in the Hanwella area have been inundated. The police also noted that there is a risk of the lower level road sinking into the Kelani River in the lower-level area. The decision to temporarily shut down the road was made by police and the Road Development Authority, who have also urged motorists to use alternative routes.

Meanwhile, the Puttlam-Mannar road has been inundated in the Eluwamkulama area due to the spill gates of the Rajanganaya reservoir being open. Traffic along the Avissawella-Hatton and Avissawella-Kegalle routes has also come to a standstill due to the roads being inundated in a number of areas. Furthermore, the overflowing of the Deduru-Oya reservoir has affected the traffic along the Padeniya-Anuradhapura road.
