The National Building Research Organisation says that an extensive investigation will be launched on Wednesday, following the landslide in the Niyandagala Mountain in Samanalawewa on Tuesday, May 3.
Head of the Research and Risk Management Division of the NBRO, R.M.S Bandara said that instructions have been issued to evacuate people residing at the foot of the mountain.
The landslide, which occurred yesterday, destroyed the Niyandagala Aranya Senasanaya. A thero was reported missing in the incident.
Meanwhile, police have instructed the general public to be vigilant when travelling along the Ratnapura – Badulla main road in Muththetugala, following the landslide.
Imbulpe Divisional Secretary, Keerthi Jayasinghe said that two police teams have been dispatched in the area to give instructions to drivers.
He added that as a result of the threat of landslides, 20 families residing at the foot of the mountain have been evacuated to safer locations.
