According to figures from Switzerland’s Federal Migration Office, Swiss authorities received 146 applications from asylum seekers from Sri Lanka within the month of March.

In March, the Swiss Authorities had dealt with the applications of 2,702 asylum seekers, of whom 875 were rejected in accordance with the Dublin regulation, 609 were granted asylum and 559 were given provisional admission to Switzerland.

The number of asylum applications filed with the Swiss government in the first quarter of 2016 dropped by 45 percent comparing to the last quarter of 2015.

The Swiss authorities received 8,315 asylum seekers’ requests in the first three months of 2016 while the Swiss authorities a received 146 applications from asylum seekers from Sri Lanka for March.

It also reported that from January to March this year, 463 Sri Lankans had requested for Asylum and the total number of Sri Lankans requesting for asylum in 2015 was 1878.
