Seven shops in Thambuththegama have been destroyed owing to fire in the area.

Police said that the fire that erupted on Wednesday night was doused with the assistance of the fire extinguishing unit of Anuradapura Municipal Council.

Among the shops that were destroyed were a mobile phone shop and a hotel.An investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the incident.
