ASP heads investigation into Ibbagamuwa clash

An investigation, headed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, has been launched into a clash which occurred between a group of individuals and police officers in Kadulawa, Ibbagamuwa.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the incident occurred when a team of officers of the Narcotics Raids Unit of the Kurunegala Police Division had arrived in the area the night before last to conduct a raid, when another group had arrived in a van and had allegedly attacked the police officers.

ASP Gunasekera added that the police officers had then fired shots to the air.

Five police officers were admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital.

Three suspects who were arrested in connection with the incident remanded after being produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
