Minister for Regional Development, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka called on the Mahanayake of the Malwathu Chapter of the Siam Sect, the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero.

At the meeting, the Mahanayake had commented on the issues faced by the rural villagers stating that through the door-to-door campaign, the level of development that has taken place can be witnessed and the villages are in “dreadful situation.”

Minister Sarath Fonseka responded to a question posed on the forming of a new political party

“Three years ago I formed a new party. We formed that party philosophically”, said Field Marshal Fonseka, who went on to explain that the intention of forming the Democratic Party was to build a single stance in the country and there were no ‘bad intentions’.

He  noted that there is nothing ethical in forming a party based on jealousy, rage and greed. He stated that this can be seen as an attempt to regain power because of their greed.
