Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa issued a message to mark the 68th Independence Day.

The former president in his message, highlights that the terrorists were defeated in the year 2009 because of the commitment rendered by the war heroes.

He affirms that the freedom and peace that was won, must be protected at all costs.

He goes on to say that, at a time when his son and several others have been imprisoned – and even if his family is arrested – he would not step away from the process of re-establishing  peace in the country.
