Views were expressed on reports that a group from the opposition, including MP Dinesh Gunawardena, are to form a new party.
Leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, MP Dinesh Gunewardena, stated that there are 59 parties in the country. Under the election law, another can be formed. He added that a front can be formed with around 10 or 12 parties together.
Secretary of the Democratic Left Front, MP Vasudewa Nanayakkara, stated that there is simply no idea among the joint opposition to form a new party.
Leader of the JVP, MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, stated that the joint opposition named as such only by name but none of them are together since one individual says one thing and the other says another. He added that it is known as the joint opposition in the first place because there is no togetherness in it.
