Speaking at a media briefing convened by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) on Wednesday, December 16, the State Minister of Highways Dilan Perera commented on MP Namal Rajapaksa’s interview, during which he said that 96 were appointed to the opposition and that those who wanted unity and sovereignty in the country remained, and the others left.
State Minister Dilan Perera stated that Namal Rajapaksa is under the impression that the SLFP belongs to his father, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Minister Perera noted that it was the SLFP’s Central Committee which decided for a consensual government.
Furthermore, Dilan Perera said that it was the former president who made ‘deals.’ He stated that, had Mahinda Rajapaksa not boycotted of votes from the North and East in 2005, he would have lost the presidential election.
The Minister of Highways also stated that if not for a deal with the UNP to get 16 MPs, the government could not even appoint its own speaker, following the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as President.
