Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, addressing parliament, elaborated on the expenditure heads relating to the President.
Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe stated:
In order for the parliamentarians to do more, more facilities and funding have to be provided and this can be done without obtaining money from anywhere.
He went on to note:
The expenditure of the heads of the Presidential Secretariat for the years 2014 and 2015; starting that in 2014, 335 million was allocated for festivities and meetings. And in 2015 only 34 million has been allocated for festivities and meetings. The difference is Rs.301 million. In 2014, Rs.15 million was allocated to express condolences for funerals, but for 2015, only Rs.363,000 rupees have been allocated.
He further stated:
We have saved Rs.19 million in water bills and another Rs.136 million in the electricity bill while another Rs.232 million was saved in the purchasing of office supplies and Rs. 24 million was saved in telephone bills.
He also stated that Rs.732 million was used for miscellaneous expenses for the year 2014; while the currently it been has reduced it to Rs.22 million. And Rs.710 million have been saved while Rs.35 million was reduced in building maintenance. Therefore, it stands at Rs.1476 million.
He stated:
Five buildings that were rented were returned in 2015 and two VIP Air Bus Ccabins were purchased where the seating for 150 persons were removed and separate rooms were made for him. We returned it and requested for a different one for that money – and this is the difference because not only was the power curtailed, the expenses were also cut down
He elaborated:
By the end of 2014, the number of vehicles used by the President in his fleet were 553, but in 2015, the number of vehicles in the fleet is 223. Since 330 vehicles were removed from the fleet and the fleet of the Presidential Secretariat that comprised of 154 vehicles now only has 116 vehicles in the fleet because 38 vehicles were removed from the fleet.
He also stated that 103 vehicles were rented but zero number of vehicles were rented for the year 2015. And 471 vehicles were removed and now there are only 333 vehicles.
He stated:
So if you are against it. Please speak now. So, we have given the money back to the President.
