The Voice Against Corruption Movement staged a demonstration in Colombo demanding punishment against large scale fraudsters responsible for several crimes, including the abuse of state property.

The protest march commenced near the Technical College in Maradana.

The demonstration was held under the theme No Deals – Punish the Corrupt. University professors, artistes, trade unions, political party representatives and various other organisations participated in this demonstration as they reached the Fort Railway Station in procession and staged a rally.

Leader of JVP, Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the wealth of the people of this country was stolen by the Rajapaksa family, and a cartel formed around his family.

He went on to note that a group of business racketeers formulated deals to steal this wealth and a considerable portion of this political class had joined the Maithri – Ranil partnership at present.

Convener for the Voice Against Corruption, Wasantha Samarasinghe stated:

The government had commenced the 100-day program in a mess, as the society had identified the CBSL bond scam.

He went on to note that 171 complaints were lodged, inquiries were made but the law was not enforced on the scam. Explaining further, he stated that the FCID has completed inquiries into 23 from 171.

He added that the Director of the FCID is not acting on it, since the IGP has addressed a letter informing him not to proceed with legal action without informing him.
