Police disperse protesting university students marching from Colombo Fort

Police took measures on Thursday to disperse a group of students that demonstrated opposite the Ministry of Higher Education.

The Students Collective to protect the Higher National Diploma in Accountancy, commenced their protest march on Thursday afternoon from Colombo – Fort demanding an equal recognition as provided to the Bachelor of Commerce.

The protesters later marched to the Ministry of Higher Education, restricting vehicular traffic on one lane. It was then that police took measures to disperse the protesters.

Thirty nine (39) students were arrested in connection to the protest. Police said that among them are two monks, 32 boys and five girls.
