Police say legal action will be taken after “investigations on illegal election rallies”

The police say that it has taken legal measures that will subject the videos that were captured of illegal rallies during the election period, to investigations. Police said that videos of seven such rallies were obtained.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunesekera said that legal action will be taken against the wrong-doers under the Parliamentary election act. Thereby, attorney general’s advice is being sought on the incident.

Meanwhile, legal action is also being taken against 899 persons who were arrested for flouting election laws. The police says that it has apprehended eleven persons following ten complaints that were lodged in relation to the breach of election laws in the post- election period.
