Speaking at a United People’s Freedom Alliance media briefing in Colombo, former minister Dullas Alahapperuma commented on the proposed Kandy Expressway saying that the entire process of providing the contract can be termed as theft in the country.
He explained the matter, pointing out that the estimate for the thirty two (32) kilometre expressway from Kadawatha to Meerigama is Rs. 120 billion but the construction has been given at a cost of Rs. 150 billion, a massive Rs. 30 billion more than the estimated amount.
The former minister also stated that this is the largest theft to take place in the country and is only second to the one that took place at the Central Bank.
