Former LTTE operative sentenced over assassination attempt on President Sirisena in 2005-2006

A former LTTE operative, who was involved in an assassination attempt on President Maithripala Sirisena, when he was the Minister of Mahaweli Development in Manampitiya , Polonnaruwa, was sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonment on Friday.

This assassination attempt was reported during 2005 – 2006. Sivaraja Jenivan , who was charged with making an attempt to assassinate Sirisena, was produced before the Polonnaruwa High Court was was thus sentenced by High Court Judge Amendra Seneviratne.

The accused was also fined Rs 10,000 by the High Court Judge and was ordered to serve an additional one year sentence if he fails to pay the fine.
