Minister of Highways Kabir Hashim says that construction on several road projects including the extension of the Southern Expressway will commence over the coming weeks.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, the minister pointed out that steps have been taken to commence construction activities on a number of projects that were halted due to the failure to make payments by the previous government.
The Minister of Highways also said that the government is taking steps to pay off the necessary amount of money as part of the 100-day programme. The minister said:
We have also formulated a framework to recommence the construction activities on all roads. The treasury is gradually releasing the money that is needed.
He further stated that the ministry is hoping to recommence work on the Outer Circuit Highway three next week that initially commenced under the previous administration. He stated that they are also hoping to commence construction work on extending the Southern Expressway under the auspices of the President on July 4.
