Reports say that the marking of boundary lines close to the Wilpattu Forest Reserve has concluded.

Secretary to the Ministry of Environment and Mahaweli Development Nihal Rupasinghe stated that the objective of  marking the boundary lines was to confirm if any encroachment had taken place through resettlement activities.

It was noted that the GPS technology belonging to the Department of Wildlife had also been used for this project.

The Ministry Secretary further noted that several reports on the resettlement activities and the destruction of the forest reserve had been brought to the attention of the ministry.

He added that the report submitted to the president as well as the report prepared by the Environment Ministry were among these reports. Speaking further, the ministry secretary noted that the resettlement activities had been halted for the time being.
