The Sri Lanka Freedom Party convened a special meeting in Colombo on Tuesday June 16 under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
Legal adviser to the President Faizer Mustapha said that during the meeting President Maithripala Sirisena had emphasized the need to strengthen the SLFP.
The meeting took place at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo and saw the participation of SLFP Parliamentarians and Provincial Councilors.
The future plans of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party were extensively discussed during the meeting.
National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Susil Premajayantha said that the party’s readiness for the next election was discussed. He stated that the president expressed his view on the need for everyone in the party to work together and also to take required steps to achieve it.
He also added that the council unanimously decided to appoint a group comprising of party seniors and discuss on how the former president and the present chairman of the Party can work together and move forward.
Thereby, a committee has been appointed comprising of Kumara Welgama, T.B.Ekanayake, Dilan Perera and W.D.J.Seneviratne.
Meanwhile, Media Spokesperson of the SLFP Dilan Perera said that the party will be steered to victory under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena adding that he will be joined by Mahinda Rajapaksa as well.
He also added that as the party had taken this decision, a correct decision will be taken on who the prime minister shall be.
President’s Counsel Faizer Mustapha noted that the President explained to the party supporters that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party must contest undivided.
