The Fundamental Rights petition seeking the prevention of the arrest of MP Tiran Alles, was taken up in the Supreme Court once again on Thursday June 11. The court ordered that the status-quo be maintained until the petition is taken up again on June 29.
At the previous hearing, both plaintiff and respondents agreed that the petition would be taken up before a three member bench comprising of Chief Justice K. Sri Pavan, Justice Rohini Marasinghe and Priyasad Depp. But, at Thursday’s hearing, the petition was taken up before a bench comprising of Justices Rohini Marasinghe, Upali Abeyratne and Buwaneka Aluvihare.
Hearings of the petition were postponed to June 29, so that the hearing could be presided by the previously appointed bench, chaired by the Chief Justice.
