Southern Provincial Minister D.V. Upul has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department and will be remanded until June 10.
The Provincial Minister was taken into custody earlier Monday evening after being questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department for several hours.
According to the Police Media Spokesperson, ASP Ruwan Gunasekara, the Provincial Minister’s arrest was based on charges that included threatening police officers.
D.V. Upul was summoned to the CID to make a statement, on the morning of Monday June 8.
Police further noted that they summoned D.V. Upul over a statement he had made regarding the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division.
