President Sirisena engages in religious observences following Poson Poya (Watch Video)

President Maithripala Sirisena engaged in religious observances at the sacred grounds of Somawathiya on June 2.

President Sirisena, who called on the Chief Incumbent of the Somawathi Rajamaha Viharaya Ven. Paahamuney Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thero, vested drinking water containers of 100,000 litres in capacity to the public on behalf of the devotees arriving at the sacred grounds.

The religious ceremony to declare open the outer wall built around the historic Bo tree of the historic Swarnapali Rajamaha Viharaya in Kalagala Swarnapaligama, Polonnaruwa, was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena this morning. Subsequently, the president engaged in religious observances at the Viharaya, called on the Chief Incumbent of the Viharaya Ven. Higulwala Kusalagnana Thero and obtained his blessings.

The rice dansala organized by the Polonnaruwa Buddhist Society for the 55th time was declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena for the second day. The president first inspected how the food and beverages were being prepared and then greeted those who arrived at the dansala.
