Five new heads of foreign missions, including the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom and the Ambassador of France, presented their credentials to President Maithripala Sirisena on Wednesday, April 29.

The presentation of credentials was held at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.

James Dauris, the High Commissioner designate of the United Kingdom, presented his credentials to the President followed by Jean Marin Schuh, the Ambassador designate of France.

James Dauris’ appointment as the UK High Commissioner to Sri Lanka was announced in December 2014. Issuing a statement on his appointment, Dauris said that he is excited about taking the relationship between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom forward at an important time and about working with Sri Lanka on issues that matter to both the countries.

Dauris joined the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1995 and served, most recently, as British Ambassador to Peru for four years. During his career with the FCO, Dauris has worked in London and has served overseas in Russia and in Colombia.

The new French Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Jean Marin Schuh, is also a career diplomat with extensive experience. Schuh, who is multi-lingual, previously served as Chargé d’affaires in India and has served in China, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Ambassadors designate of Croatia, Bahrain and Hungary also presented their credentials on Wednesday.
