Phase 1 of the Eastern Terminal at the Colombo South Port, was declared open on Monday, April 27, under the auspices of Minister Arjuna Ranatunga.
The terminal which is administered by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, extends for 1200 metres as a 400 metre section has been completed. The project, undertaken at a cost of Rs.80 million, was marked with the arrival of a traditional cargo vessel from China.
Minister Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga stated that in the recent past questions arose whether development of the country is needed or the development of an institution is required. He stated that large scale corruption has occurred through these moves and thus wasting time talking about the past is useless, and instead it is more important to continue into the future.
