The Australian government has taken steps to resettle asylum seekers, among them some believed to be Sri Lankans, in Cambodia, as part of its latest programme to crack- down on prospective immigrants.
Issuing a statement the Australian government said that swift measures are being taken, to send the batch of asylum seekers on board a flight.
The first such flight carrying the asylum seekers, is scheduled to arrive in the capital city of Cambodia; Phnom Penh on Monday.
The lawyer representing the Immigration Office said that the CVs’ of the asylum seekers have been sent to the detention centres in Cambodia.
The Cambodian Government agreed to be the recipient when the deal was struck with the Australian government in September last year.
The BBC reports that information on the nationalities slated to be resettled in Cambodia is yet to be revealed.
