Special Presidential Task Force to be set up to recover state assets

The Cabinet has decided to establish a Special Presidential Task Force on recovery of state assets.

Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Rajitha Senaratne made this statement while addressing the cabinet briefing and also announced that decisions had been reached over several large scale projects.

Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Rajitha Senaratne stated that the proposal made by the President to establish a Presidential Task Force for the recovery of state assets and revenue that have been moved away from country, was approved by the Cabinet.

He went on to note that they have received information of three bank accounts in the Bank of Dubai and that a leading family, officials and politicians have connections to these accounts with a value of around one billion US dollars.

Minister Rajitha Senaratna said:

This amount is far greater that the foreign reserves of the country and even more than 10 billion US Dollars. This proposal seeks the recovery of these assets back to the country.

Cabinet has also appointed a committee to re-investigate the construction of the Defence Headquarters complex in Akuregoda, Battaramulla.

Journalists also raised questions as to whether an election will be called for.

Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Rajitha Senaratne replied that the people cast their vote not for another election but for the promises made to be fulfilled.
