The ministry of food security says that a decision has been taken to temporarily suspend the existing loans provided to rice mill owners whose mills have been shut down.
Speaking to News 1st Minister Gamini Jayawickrema stated that plans are being made to provide state assistance to rice mill owners in a bid to assist them with recommencing work at their rice mills. The minister noted that steps will be taken to provide relief to these rice mill owners by suspending the loans already obtained by them.
Min Jayawickrama went on to note that officers from his ministry together with representatives of the state banks will be meeting these rice mill owners and notifying them of this.
