The number of vehicles registered has been increased.

Motor Traffic Commissioner General S. H. Harischandra said that compared to last January, the registration of vehicles had increased by 90% this year. The number of vehicles that were registered in January 2015 stood at 50,000 while in January 2014, 27,000 vehicles were registered.

The Commissioner General of Motor Traffic said that 30,000 motor bicycles and 8000 three-wheelers were registered in January 2015. The Department of Motor Traffic noted that the increase in registration of vehicles is due to the improvement of living standards and the tax subsidies that were made available for small vehicles.
