Leader of the JVP, Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake made a special statement in Parliament on Thursday over what action the government would be taking with regard to the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project.

Leader of JVP, MP, Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that at a time when intellectuals and environmentalists raised their voice against Uma Oya project, those calls were neglected, and construction commenced.

One phase of this construction has been completed. There are many more phases that are yet to be completed. This was highlighted in the media in their reports recently. It is feared that the wells have dried out because of this construction.

He added: The  walls of the houses have started to crack. Temples have been damaged by this. Fresh water springs have also dried up. It is clear that this project has caused massive environmental and social destruction in the country.
