Trade unions across many sectors have declared that the needs of the people have not been addressed by the 2015 budget. Operations Committee Member at the National Trade Union Center Wasantha Samarasinghe says the Budget is a lie.
He added that the pay rise requested by the working class has not been granted.
Chairman of the Lanka Private bus owners association Gemunu Wijeyratne, said a risk of public sector workers withdrawing from passenger transport services has emerged with the proposal made in the budget to give away motorcycles to the public sector workers.
General secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin said that hopes of the teachers and principals have been shattered by the budget.
The second reading of the budget is scheduled for Saturday.
