Sri Lankan fishermen who were stranded in international water for several days are currently about 58 nautical miles off the coast of Myanmar.
This situation was revealed when the fishermen got in touch with the Dickwella satellite Communication Centre through a satellite phone .
According to the fishermen, around 38 fishing vessels are currently heading towards Myanmar.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar H.R. Piyasiri noted that negotiations are underway to free the fishermen of the three boats that were taken into custody.
Meanwhile, Director General of the Fisheries Department Nimal Hettiarachchi notes that they had requested the Myanmar government to provide a safe haven to the Sri Lankan fishermen adding that they had been designated two islands on which they could dock.
