The Department of Registration of Persons has said that they are yet to receive over 200,000 applications for National Identity Cards of students sitting for the GCE Ordinary Level examination this year.
The Commissioner General R.M.S. Sarath Kumara said that the programme to provide them with IDs has therefore been delayed.
He said that he had made many requests to principals of schools as of January this year regarding the situation, but to no avail.
