A train that had been plying from Fort, Colombo to Pallei derailed in Paranagaswewa, Anuradhapura Sunday afternoon.
The Railway Control Room stated that as a result, train services along the northern railway line have been restricted until Anuradhapura.
Meanwhile, Railway Chief Controller D. V. Gunapala stated that the coastal railway line from Wellawatte to Colombo Fort is operating on only one track.
This move is due to the derailment of three carriages of a Colombo-bound train near the Bambalapitiya Railway Station on Saturday evening.
Seven passengers were injured and are currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. The Chief Controller added that a special investigation has been launched into the accident.
