Veteran politician V. Anandasangaree, secretary general of the Tamil United Liberation Front, has announced a decision to quit parliamentary politics on his 81st birthday, which falls Sunday.
Issuing a statement, Anandasangaree said that he arrived at this decision as he could not create the type of society he anticipated during his 55 years of active politics.
He says that he has therefore decided not to take part in any elections in the future.
Anandasangaree adds that he will issue a detailed statement shortly on his future plans.
