Speaking at an event held in Wellassa, Bibila on Saturday, Minister Vijith Wijayamuni Zoysa made the following remarks.

“I remember how I could not bear it six months after the government was toppled in 2001. When we were losing in every district in Sri Lanka, we secured victory in the Moneragala District. When a re-count of the preferential votes was held, I went there. I toted this toy gun and threatened them to release the results and I won by 1000 votes.”

The minister further added:

“Now we have a government and we have a Rajapaksa too. We are strong. If we cannot go on this journey we will go home. We do not need anymore cripples. Remember that when I contested the position of chief minister, the government at the time did not say that I was the chief ministerial candidate. I said that I was the chief ministerial candidate, and when I said it, no one else in Moneragala said that they were the chief ministerial candidate. If anyone looks into who changed politics in this district, they will know that it was Vijayamuni Zoysa.”
