Suspects in Avissawella robbery remanded (CCTV visual)

The suspects in a robbery which occurred in a mobile accessory shop in Avissawella have been taken into police custody and remanded.

The robbery had been recorded on the CCTV cameras at the shop.

The suspects had allegedly entered the shop which is located in the Avissawella town, through the roof at about 3 a.m. on April 1. The incident has been recorded on  CCTV cameras at the shop.

During the investigation police have been able to arrest five suspects from Yatiyantota and Ratnapura.

Fifty four (54) mobile phones, telephone reload cards worth Rs. 10 ,000 and a laptop which they had in their possession were seized by the police.

Meanwhile, investigations regarding the robbery which occurred in a  jewellery shop in Negombo are currently underway. Thirty individuals have been questioned regarding this robbery.

A special investigation team headed by SSP Jayantha Liyanage has been appointed to conduct further investigations. Six  individuals who arrived in three motorcycles wearing full face helmets at around 7.30 on Friday night had  allegedly threatened the employees and committed the crime.

The thieves had allegedly made off with cash and jewellery to the tune of Rs.3 million rupees.

Police have made inquiries from employees at the jewellery shop, customers and eye-witnesses, but have as yet been unable to unearth any information regarding the identities of the suspects.
