Our area correspondents report that amidst the new controlled prices that have been introduced for the season , retailers continue to sell rice at higher prices. News1st area correspondent Herath Ekanayake reported that a kilogramme of Samba rice in Kandy is being sold at Rs.80.
Meanwhile, prices of certain varieties of rice in the Galle district are being sold at Rs. 90 to Rs.95 Rice sold in Kalutara, Matugama and Agalawatta are also at a higher price than the controlled price.
However ,the Deputy Director of the Consumer Affairs Authority, Asela Bandara said that raids are being conducted to locate retailers who sell rice at higher prices countrywide.
