Authorities of the health sector reveal the main reasons for the increase in accidents are due to negligence and consumption of alcohol and thus urge the general public to be cautious during this festive season.

The Director of the National Hospital Dr. Anil Jasinghe further requested the public to avoid using fire crackers that do not meet the required standards and to refrain from involving children in these activities.

The director further noted that  special attention should be given when allowing people with genetic diseases to take part in marathons and other  sporting activities organised in lieu of the New Year celebrations.

He further urged motorists to refran from driving under the influence of alchohol.

The director also pointed out that attention should be given to check the standard if vehicles used in travelling long distances,
