Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Ambassador, Ravinatha Aryasinha says that Sri Lanka will continue to engage in activities which are in the best interest of its people.
He made this comment to NDTV following the adoption of the US-sponsored resolution on Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UNHRC, Ravinatha Aryasinha said: “They have passed lots of resolutions. They can pass resolutions. We will work and do things which are in the best interest of our people. We will continue to do that. Today it is Sri Lanka, tomorrow it can be any country. I think it is very important that we deal with situation and we don’t allow people to interfere in our countries because if we start doing that in any one country it becomes a very slippery slope…”
Meanwhile, Indian Envoy to the UNHRC speaking to NDTV said that India encourages Sri Lanka to fully implement the recommendations of the domestic mechanism which is the LLRC.
India’s Envoy to the UNHRC, Dilip Singha said: “We encourage Sri Lanka to fulfill its own commitments and conduct its own investigations in such a way that they are credible and they are being looked upon by others as being acceptable investigations. We were never against Sri Lanka , we were always with Sri Lanka in this process at the highest political level we were with Sri Lanka that we stand for national reconciliation in Sri Lanka. We stand for peace and prosperity in Sri Lanka and we will do whatever is possible to help Sri Lanka in this process …”
