The Ministry of Education has taken steps to form school-level committees to eradicate addiction to drugs by school children. The Secretary to the Ministry Anura Dissanayake said the committee will be appointed in collaboration with the Police, Child Protection Authority and Drug Regulation Authority.
The committee will be appointed within next ten days and will be headed by deputy principals and will include school teachers, members of the civil task force, parents and students.
The committee will take the initiative for counselling and will educate school children on Dengue and other communicable diseases. The Secretary to the Ministry also added that necessary arrangements have been made to conduct programmes to educate school children on using the internet and safety measures.
