The striker was accused by The Sun of meeting American model Celia Kay in a hotel room the night before the Gunners played Crystal Palace at the Emirates on February 2.Giroud at first denied the encounter, but after photos emerged of the half-naked Frenchman in Kay’s room, the 27-year-old has now publically confessed to the meeting.

He wrote, in French and English: ‘I apologise to my wife, family and friends and my manager, team-mates and Arsenal fans.

‘I now have to fight for my family and for my club and obtain their forgiveness. Nothing else matters at the moment.’

Giroud is expected to receive a heavy fine from Arsenal for breaching club curfew rules prior to a game.
