The fire that erupted at the Canopy Building at the BMICH premises has been fully contained.
Ten fire brigade units were dispatched to the location to douse the fire that broke out at around 11.15 on Saturday morning.
The cause of the fire is yet to be known. According to Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana, investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
The Canopy Building which was on fire this morning was used to accommodate several functions during the time when the BMICH was closed for renovation work. The building was utilised to accommodate media personnel during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which concluded this month.
